Internal Pipe Blasting

undefined

As we know, abrasive blasting is an efficient way to remove rust and contamination. Usually, we see operators treating the flat surface of the workpiece. Can abrasive blasting be used to deal with the non-planar cutters or a pipe? The answer is, of course, yes. But different equipment is required. For internal pipe blasting, we need another machine to carry the abrasive blasting nozzles into the pipe. That is the deflector. With more instruments for internal pipe blasting, what more should the operators pay attention to? In this article, internal pipe blasting will be introduced briefly as a precaution.

Preliminary Control

Before abrasive blasting, operators should evaluate the grade of the surface rust. They need to check the surface carefully and remove welding slag, some attachments, grease, and some soluble dirt. Then they choose suitable abrasive materials for the surface.

Tool control

Before abrasive blasting, it is important to check the blasting tools. Whether the abrasive blasting tools are safe, whether the manufacturer of the abrasive blasting tools is certificated, and whether the tools and machines can still work, especially the machines for oxygen provide, are vital. During the abrasive blasting, you should make ensure that your machine is working and that the index on the machine gauze is right.

Abrasive control

The choice of abrasive materials is based on the type of surface you are dealing with. For internal pipe blasting, operators usually choose hard, angular, and dry abrasive materials.

Process control

1. The compressed air used for abrasive blasting must be processed by a cooling device and oil-water separator, which need to be cleaned regularly.

2. During abrasive blasting, the distance should be suitable. The best distance between the nozzle and the surface is 100-300mm. The angle between the spraying direction of the nozzle and the surface of the workpiece is 60°-75°.

3. Before the next process, if it rains and the workpiece gets wet, operators should dry the surface with compressed air.

4. During the abrasive blasting, the abrasive blasting nozzle cannot stay in one place for a long time, which is easy to make the substrate of the workpiece wear.

Environment control

The abrasive blasting of internal pipes usually happens in the open air, so operators should pay attention to dust prevention and environmental protection. To ensure the working environment is safe, operators should detect the temperature and humidity of the environment and the temperature of the workpiece surface.

Quality control

After blasting, we should inspect the inner wall of the pipe and the cleanliness and roughness of the surface of the substrate.
