Single Bore Nozzle and Venturi Nozzles

Before we can start the abrasive blasting process, it is important to choose the right blasting nozzle. Using the right blasting nozzle for abrasive blasting can increase work efficiency and decrease the damage the wrong blasting nozzle brings. One of the things we need to know when choosing a blasting nozzle is the nozzle shape. This article is going to talk about how to choose the blast nozzle shape.

There are two main blast nozzle shapes for people to choose from, one is the straight bore nozzle shape, and the other one is the venturi type. Under venture nozzles, there are long venturi, short venturi, and double venturi nozzles.

1.     Straight Bore

As shown in the picture, the left side of the straight bore nozzle is wider and this is where the compressed air enters. Then the compressed air is in a straight and narrow inner path. Due to the narrow space, the abrasive media is delivered under a tight stream. Some best used for straight bore nozzle shape includes spot blasting and weld-shaping.

2.     Long Venturi

The design for the venture nozzle can create an effect that greatly accelerates the airflow and particles. The entry for the venturi is converging and diverges in the end. A wider exit, in the end, creates a larger blast pattern. In addition, it produces a more uniform particle distribution.

3.     Double Venturi

A double venturi nozzle has a similar inner pathway to the long venturi. The only difference is it has an extra wide exit opening and holes at the tip. Double venturi nozzles create a much wider blast pattern than long venturi nozzles because of the holes.

4.     Short Venturi

Besides long venturi, there are also short venturi nozzles. Short venturi nozzles produce the same blast pattern as long venturi nozzles. This type of nozzle is good for close-up blasting.

The various nozzle shapes can determine the blast pattern, the hot pot, and the velocity. Therefore, choosing the right blasting nozzle is necessary if you want to increase work efficiency. Moreover, when you find any signs on your nozzles showing they are worn out, replace them!

BSTEC provides a selection of abrasive blasting nozzles with high-quality and long lifespans.
