Applications and Working Principle of Abrasive Blasting

undefined

Since the blasting first appeared around 1870, it has developed for more than a hundred years. As we all know, the first abrasive nozzle was developed by a man named Benjamin Chew Tilghman. And the Venturi nozzles appeared in the 1950s based on a complementary theory from Italian physicist Giovanni Battista Venturi. In this article, the working principle and application of blasting will be talked about.

Working Principle of Blasting

When workers use nozzles for sandblasting, the press-in dry sandblasting machine is applied, which is powered by compressed air. The compressed air will form pressure in the pressure tank of the sandblasting machine, press the abrasive materials into the conveying pipe through the outlet, and inject the abrasive material out from the nozzle. Abrasive materials are sprayed to deal with the surface of the workpiece to achieve the desired purpose.

Application of Blasting

1. Blasting is used to remove the rust and other dirt on the surface of the workpiece before coating the workpiece. Blasting can also achieve different roughness by changing abrasive materials of different sizes to improve the bonding force between the workpiece and the coating.

2. Blasting can be applied for cleaning and polishing the rough surfaces of castings and workpieces after heat treatment. Blasting can clean all contaminants like oxide and oil, improve the smoothness of the workpiece, and can make the workpiece reveal its appearance of metal color, which is more beautiful.

3. Blasting can help clean the burr and beautify the surface of the workpieces. Blasting can clean the tiny burrs on the surface of the workpieces, even the small rounded corners at the junction of the workpieces, to make the surface of the workpieces flatter.

4. Blasting can improve the mechanical properties of the parts. After blasting, there will be some tiny concave and convex surfaces of the workpieces, which can store the lubrication to improve the lubrication conditions, reduce the noises during working, and prolong the service life of the machine.

5. Blasting can be used to manufacture the surface of the blasting. Blasting can produce different surfaces, like matte or smooth, to different kinds of materials, like stainless steel, plastics, jade, wood, frosted glass, and cloth.
